Pascal Tabu a.k.a. Tabu Ley Rochereau, born in 1940 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bandundu of the Bayanzi people, is a preeminent African singer of the modern age of African Music. Tabu Ley pioneered soukous; he internationalised his music by fusing elements of Congolese folk music with Cuban, Caribbea, andLatin American rhumba.Throughout the past four decades Tabu Ley has played with some of the top African artists, such as Mbilia Bel, Papa Wemba and Sam Mangwana.
When President Mobutu was removed from power in the late 1990s, Tabu ley returned to Kinshasa and took up a position as a cabinet minister in the government of new President Laurent Kabila. Following Kabila's death, Tabu Ley is still continuing in the same capacity under new President Joseph Kabila. More Information
